My FH and his mother don’t get along so well… it’s very complicated. She didn’t raise him, so a lot of the mother/son songs I’ve seen would just be kind of… empty. Any more lighthearted, less meaningful mother/son songs?

You certainly don’t have to do a mother/son dance.
You could do a combined mother/son father/daughter dance if you and your dad are willing to share the spotlight, which might help things not feel so weird.
“what a wonderful world” is short and not very mushy…maybe that would work?

I was going to suggest “What a wonderful world” too. We did a combined father/daughter, mother/son dance to this one.

How about an instrumental oldie? “Theme from a Summer Place” is short and sweet.

@nmsoonerbride: My dad isn’t walking me down the aisle, because he’s been absent for the last few years. But he was the best dad ever when he was in my life (up until teens) so we still have a strong connection; because of that I don’t want to have him share the limelight on the one tradition we are doing together. Plus he’s coming all the way from California with money he barely scraped up.
As far as FH goes, I’m going to suggest Wonderful World. His grandmother raised him, so he’s surprising her with a dance too, but we didn’t want his mom to feel snubbed. Thank you!
