I can relate! I moved into my husband’s house as well. He didn’t have as long as yours did…only about a year and a half. It took awhile for me to finally get used to the fact that it’s mine now too. I felt slightly invasive because I didn’t want to make it too girly, but the way he had it decorated was so boring. (like, no pictures or decor of any kind!) I just kind of took it slow and now it actually looks like a nice home and I can honestly consider it “my” house too. 🙂

I didn’t move into his house, but before we got engaged, I moved into his long-time apartment. It was tough, tougher than I thought it would be. We’re both people fixed in our ways and I was caught between wanting a place for “us” and and not offending his tastes. His mother decorated the rooms so that was a huge add-on too.

In the end, that’s what helped motivate our move.

My advice would be to communicate fully with him about how you’re feeling and let him know how you’d want a room, even if it’s just a stray, “wouldn’t it be nice if this was here”. Thinking about his feelings, I apparently wasn’t as verbal as I should have or took too long openly say how I really felt and he thought things were more or less, just fine.

I hope you and your husband have a much easier time adjusting!

@jayelcee85: OMG, that would drive me crazy! This reminds me of when I moved in with him and she decorated everything. Whenever she would visit, she acted like it was only him that lived there. Arggggh! I realize that you must take a stand or else it’ll only be worse and it’ll slowly affect your marriage.

Have you made any progress, OP?  I’m going through this right now and it’s already caused one big argument that made me think I might lose him….. he wants me to move in NOW but there’s no stinkin room for me:(  Clutter!!!! And I work from home so I could CERTAINLY get it cleaned up in no time but it’s his stuff.. wth am I supposed to DO with it Stick it in a box? That feels like I’m his mom and disciplining a little kid for his messy room!
