@HisNightOwl2014: With our last move we used movers. We went from a second floor to a third floor apartment. My Darling Husband (FI at the time) insisted on using movers bc our bed is a Tempur Pedic and weighs a ton. Though it did cost more, the difference was only about $150 in terms of if we did it ourselves. We don’t regret it. It was way more relaxing on both our parts. Also it made us less lazy to unpack bc we weren’t tired out from the move.

@HisNightOwl2014:  I’ve moved around quite a bit (I’ve lived in 3 states and 5 apartments in the last 6.5 years), and I’ve hired movers every time with the exception of my first move.  My first move was pretty easy, though, because I really didn’t have that much stuff yet.

When my fiance and I moved in together almost 2 years ago, he wasn’t crazy about the idea of movers.  We lived in separate apartments within about 5 miles or so of one another (he lived on the third floor and I lived on the first), and we were moving into a third floor apartment (where we currently live) that was maybe 3 miles from his apartment and 6 miles from mine.  He thought using movers seemed ridiculous because all of the apartments were so close.

In the end, I talked him into using movers and he was so glad.  He took care of coordinating everything on one of his days off, and he told me later that it was so awesome to just have everything taken care of in a short amount of time.  Yes, it can be a little costly (I think we paid around $300 or so and it was obviously a short distance move!), but it’s totally worth it.  You’ll save yourself a lot of headaches in the end.

Thats cheap! Just be sure youre getting quality removalists, rather than backpackers or something. We’re Defence, and move big distances frequently. So trust me when I say vet them carefully! We’ve done a lot of moves, and unfortuantely can’t chose our removalists, so we’ve had some damage and breaks. That being said, we are very lucky that we get picked up and moved at no cost to us!

For $400, I say hire the movers, especially if you only have one friend helping out. When SO and I got an apartment together, he moved our stuff with the help of his brother and my brother.. it took alllllll day to move the stuff from one apartment to the other.

@HisNightOwl2014:  Haha you’ll have to show him the poll results and say, “See?  It’s obviously the right choice to hire movers!”

I pretty much just told Darling Husband we were hiring movers. He wanted to sae the money, but he definitely didn’t regret it when I was able to get the whole move done in one day while he was at work. I know that it would’ve taken us much longer on our own, even with the help of others. Plus, if you break even one piece of nice furniture or electronics…you could’ve jsut paid for mvoers instead of now having to repair or replace the item. Especially when it comes to TVs – I work in high end home theater so I know how easy it is to break a TV because it wasn’t transported properly, and I would have been SO upset if any part of my nice home theater system I’ve spent thousands on broke because I didn’t spend a few hundred on movers.

Movers!  Fiance has moved me many times, every semester at my college sorority, summers, into my first apt and 2x since we moved to WA.  Our last move we hired movers.

    MOVERS!

Dont move it all yourself, my friend used to have a job moving furniture, and threw out his back doing it and has spent 1000’s of dollars at chiropractors because of it.

My husband and I paid $5000 for movers to get our stuff across the country, and they stole about $3000 of our stuff.  So maybe I’m biased, but I say, move it yourselves.  Or keep a really good eye on the people you’re paying. 🙂

@HisNightOwl2014:  My first instinct was “oh my gosh, her fiance’s going to throw out his back!” 🙂  I’m with you on the movers thing – just hire movers and let it be done! Packing is tiring enough.
