The movie was interesting, entertaining, and pretty fast-paced. I wasn’t blown away by any aspect, but the cast did a decent job and there really was no stand-out lead performance. I thought diCaprio was better in Shutter Island (minus the accent) and Paige was far too young for her role, but the rest of the character actors did their jobs well. Cotillard was by far the most captivating feature, and I would’ve liked to see more appearances of her.
It’s definitely another Matrix — same concept, really — but I give it high marks for the screenplay. Nolan doesn’t write anything uncomplicated but the complexities of Inception were simple compared to the more nightmare-inducing Dark Knight.
Neither the audience nor the actors are supposed to “get it”, and my friends and family are split evenly about the ending. But there are numerous holes that should have been filled in, and I find myself unsatisfied with the plot for this reason.
I rated it as 4 out of 5 stars overall, with maybe another 1/2 star for the fact that I was never once bored or distracted.
