papayagirl :  Congratulations, Bee! I completely relate to the anxiety, but I also know this will be a wonderful adventure for you. And I also know that your hometown will always be there if you desperately want to go back.

Tomorrow will mark one year since my husband and I moved across the country. We were both starting new jobs, and I was so overwhelmed. Even though the move was my idea, I think I cried most of the 13 hour drive to our new apartment! I also had a breakdown when we finally got to our new apartment. Then what commenced was a stressful few months. It was hard being away from our family and friends. It felt like we had no support system anymore. It was hard beginning new jobs, and it was frustrating getting lost on the way to the grocery store. There were definitely times I missed my old routine and life, because it was what was familiar to me.

But wow, it was also so much fun! I chose to view it all as a challenge. I think it was so good for us to get out of our comfort zones and embark on such a huge adventure.

So here we are a year later, and I’m about to embark on an even bigger challenge. I was offered my dream internship for the fall semester. It’s 2000 miles away, and I’ll be going alone. I’m anxious and I’m excited, but I’m focusing on the excitement. It’s an amazing opportunity to explore a new city by myself for 4 months. I know that it will be hard, but also know that I’m going to grow so much.

We’ve got this, Bee! Enjoy the challenge. 🙂

Congratulations on the new job!  Change is hard, but it seems like you’ve already got a built in support network where you’re moving.  Rely on them, make new friends, and enjoy your new gig!
