Make a list! Wants/needs. Do you need 4 new lamps & 6 new towels or can you get by with just a couple?

Yes definitely make a prioritized list. See what other people have that they’re wanting to gt rid of. Lots of peoeple are storing dishes, small appliances, couches that are perfectly functional just because they feel guilty throwing them out.  Such a budget helper.  Or even if you have to do withborrowing somebody’s camp chairs until your couch comes its better than nothing.

And always keep your shower liner right on the top of your moving boxes since its one of the first things you’ll need. Sucks after moving all day to be grungy and realize there’s no curtain.

Try looking at lists of suggested items for stocking your first home – for example, here’s one with kitchenware suggestions. Definitely make yourself lists before you go to the store or you’ll end up picking up the “OH, that’s so cute, I want one of these!” when you don’t really need it.

Also, go through your house room by room, and make lists of everything you need per room – ie, for the bathroom you might need shower curtain, bathmat, soap dispenser, 4 new towels, 4 new faceclothes, etc; for the living room you might need curtains, 2 floor lamps, couch cover, whatever. If you do it really systematically, you’ll be less like to forget 🙂

Moving is stressful! If budget is an issue, maybe consider estate sales or rummage sales through local churches. We’ve found great stuff there, including some of our furniture.

@Willow1991:  Been there!!! As PP said make a list of things you use everyday (coffee maker, toaster, utensils, toaster, pans, plates, blender, can opener) and forget about the non necessities (like the espresso maker, food processor).

Get what you actually need now and worry about the rest later (towels for yourself now, worry about guest towels later). Especially if you are having a bridal shower. I got all my cook and expensive stuff through that (kitchen aid mixer and food processor, espresso machine, the expensive coffee maker, toaster, blender etc, the extra towels).

Definetely make a list. Make one for your pantry needs (I started a thread about that, if you look under my posts you can find it), make one for your tolietries (shampoo, toliet paper, etc).  And then one for odds and ends (lamps, light bulbs, trash cans). Go room by room and it will make it so much easier. Good luck!
