(Closed) Moving old last name to middle name question

Interestingly enough, I’m changing my name but not taking my fiance’s last name. I called and asked the social security office if this would be an issue and they said not at all and to just make sure you fill out the forms correctly.

@teaqueen2014:  I think it actually makes it easier in some ways to keep your maiden as your middle. There will inevitably be things that you forget to change and it’s easier to see a link between your new and old names this way.

I think it’s only insanely difficult in New York, where moving your maiden name to your middle requires a court order, publishing it in the newspaper, filing a record of your publication, etc. It’s really dumb. Everywhere else I think it’s no harder than any name change!
