I am commenting to follow this post… DH and I live in Westchester, NY and have seriously been considering a move to Charleston, SC in the next year or so. You ladies have all been so helpful and I might want to pick your brains in the next few months! πŸ˜€

@futuremrsk18:  Congrats!! Please come back and tell us how you like it once you are all settled down there.

@futuremrsk18:  We looked into Charlotte for a hot second… My husband is very drawn to that city. But it has taken him some time to get me on board to make the move south (I’m very attached to my family and they are all settled here in NY). When he finally convinced me I told him that I just had one condition: I won’t go unless we settle down near the water! πŸ˜€

Thankfully, my husband telecommutes and can literally work from ANYWHERE and I’m not too tied to my current career so I will be happy to explore whatever job opportunities are available in Charleston. It’s deff more expensive than other areas in SC, but it’s still significantly cheaper than where we are now so I think it might be a good compromise for us! πŸ™‚

Congrats again on the move and I am jealous of that warm weather you are enjoying right now!!

Thank you so much for this thread!

I am 28 too (seems to be a trend here ladies) and seriously considering moving to South Carolina from NYC after our wedding. I spent the greater part of my childhood in Alabama (so I have some sense of the pace of the south) and my parents have since moved back. My FI’s grandmother lives in Charleston and visiting her over the last couple of years I’ve really fallen in love with the city. Some days it just seems like such a long process….what city, finding employment (involves licensure changes for my profession), where do we live, will I find friends, organizing a move… so it’s super refreshing and encouraging to see someone bite the bullet and just do it!

I think after our wedding this summer I’m going into serious operation relocation South Carolina mode. Please keep us posted on your adjusting to your big move.

I’m glad you are enjoying Rock Hill!  I moved there this past May with my Fiance (who is from New York).  I am in a graduate program and Winthrop right now and love the area!  We are in the process of building a house in Fort Mill.  You have to love the cost of living compared to NY!

@futuremrsk18:  I am so happy to hear that you are enjoying SC!! DH and I are going to do exactly what you suggested… We will be taking some time off to travel down to Charlotte late spring/early summer and drive down to Charleston, exploring cities along the way. Even though I am infatuated with Charleston we are starting to look at Charlotte more seriously due to the lower cost of living and better job opportunities for me (I think I mentioned it before, but DH telecommutes and makes enough that when we relocate we can live comfortably off of his income while I look for employment). I will probably come back to this thread with questions when we’re ready for our trip. πŸ˜€

Also glad to hear you are making friends. A big part of me is so scared of leaving everything (and everyone!) behind, but DH and I are both pretty social so I have a feeling we will do just fine. πŸ™‚

@futuremrsk18:  Rock Hill’s a great choice.  Have you been to Cinebarre yet?  I think that’s the movie theater you mentioned earlier that was near your house but I’m not sure.  It is the BEST movie theater ever, EVER, like an old fashioned drive through but inside!  You can order pizzas and burgers and have a meal while you watch the movie.  In the summer my SO and I do day trips to Carowinds (if you like roller coasters at all, get those season passes, you live about 10 minutes away!!) followed by dinner and a movie at cinebarre, best date ever!

@Mrs. Coyote:  Please make sure you visit Greenville SC on the way. It’s such an amazing city. I’d say skip Columbia…

@epalmisano829:  We are planning on spending time in Charlotte, Columbia and Charleston. Can I ask why you suggest skipping Columbia? Just curious for all the info… Good AND bad! πŸ™‚
