It’s not the greatest area, and in the summer it can be hot and very smelly. It reminds me a little of Newark before Corey Booker.

HAHAHA! Thanks for the advice. For now, we’ve decided to just check out Charlotte. We’re going at the end of May to scope out neighborhoods and after today’s stupid snowstorm I am SO ready to move!

@futuremrsk18:  I’ve heard that exact thing, the “arm pit of the south”, about Columbia. I’ve been there, it could be a good description…

Thanks for the tips on Columbia. We’re pretty settled on just looking into Charlotte and Charleston right now. We have a trip planned to Charlotte in May and Charleston in June. Hoping, hoping, hoping that we find an area we love. If we do, we will probably be out of NY by the end of the year!

I currently live in Charleston, SC. I moved down here over 2 years ago from CT so I am a northerner (by birth), too! I am 31 and have loved every minute of living in the South. I know I’m a little late to the party, but I’d be happy to help or answer any questions πŸ™‚

@futuremrsk18:  Ohh, didn’t see the update that you posted.. Congrats on your new job!! Glad you found something and are happy in Rock Hill. I’m not too familiar with the area, but it sounds great and you’re in the South now, woo hoo! i agree that the weather down here beats out northern weather any day πŸ™‚

@futuremrsk18:  I don’t know surrounding areas TOO well as I didn’t grow up here. I go to Clemson, which (as previously mentioned) is a FAR cry from NYC! I grew up in PA a bit from Philadelphia. I would agree with PPs who suggested Greenville, SC or Charlotte. I lived outside Charlotte when I was younger and BF went to college there and it’s still one of my favorite places to visit on weekends! More specifically, the Huntersville area. Lake Norman is very nice too! Greenville SC is really up-and-coming and such a great area to live! We never run out of things to do/restaurants to try/shopping/etc. there!
