i am not quite an austin-bee but i used to live there.

i lived at 2 different apartment complexes while i was there and my favorite by far was:

http://www.mqtreetops.com/home.asp

they are close enough to major highways but still very quiet and secluded. if you like hiking there are great trails nearby as well. the exit of MoPac is one past Far West…the whole area is great!

i’m so jealous…i would love to be back in austin!!!

i actually currently live in a complex owned by that same company (it may be right next door) and i would HIGHLY suggest those apartments. i love this area, and it’s very pet friendly (plus torchys tacos is right down the street YUM). if you want the name of my complex, PM me. we love CSW as a management company!

You could check out the Hyde Park area. Some of it is kinda expensive but there are a ton of grad students that live there and it’s not super far from campus.

Lived in Far West for 3 years during (just moved away 🙁 )grad school-it is PERFECT for that setting. Great bus to campus and safe neighborhood.  PM me if you have any questions about it.

Round Rock and Pflugerville are Northern suburbs of Austin… worth checking out.

I’m not sure if you’ve gone to look at places yet, but I would suggest the following:

North Campus/ Hyde Park– within walking distance of campus, a lot of engineering/grad students live in this area, older/smaller apartments, but the location makes up for it

Arboretum/Great Hills-I lived close to the Arboretum one year (while I was at UT) and really loved the convenience of it!  There’s a bus that routes from that area directly to campus (15-20 min. ride, depending on traffic).  The area is really pretty- lots of trees, a mix of older, updated apartments & newer apartments good shopping/eatery locations.  I think if you google Arboretum you should be able to find it, but specifically, I lived off of Jollyville Rd, near Breaker.

Domain– very nice area, close to campus, probably pricey though

South Central (near S. Congress & Oltorf)- I also lived across from St. Edwards University one year and really, really loved that area.  Quaint apartments, close to the downtown bus route, FANTASTIC shopping/food & there’s a grocery store located conveniently down the street.

Good Luck!!
