It looks like in addition to a September wedding, I will be starting my PhD at BGSU in August of this year. I am looking for any suggestions as to where to live, and where to look for a part time job. I have lived in Chicago for the past 10 years where a super cheap 1 bedroom apartment is $850, so any advice on what is considered a “good” rental price would help to.
Also, would it be doable to live/work in Toledo and commute back and forth? Is traffic bad?
Thanks in advance!

I live in Toledo. $850 can rent you a decent house around here. I rent a 1 bdrm apartment for $525. It’s definitely doable to commute from Toledo to BG a lot of people do that.
I don’t know what type of job you’re looking for but there are a lot of restaurants in the Toledo area. I live close to the Franklin Park Mall, there are a lot of job opprotunities around there. My fiance works (and makes good money) at the casino in Perrysburg.
Feel free to ask me anything!

@maenadinchicago: I used to live in BG, actually close to 8 years there. If you stay in BG, stay away from the number streets. It can get pretty loud and crazy on the weekends since that’s where most college students live off campus. I had great rentals from Mecca Management and Greenbriar. A lot of rental companies in town have specific rentals just for grad students, so they tend to be more low key. If you find a place, I can give you what I know about it.
If you want to commute, look into perrysburg, rossford, maumee as they have some nicer places.
Good luck on your schooling! BGSU is a great place.

Thanks for the advice [email protected] I will be looking at some places at Greenbriar. They have some graduate student apts in downtown so I wont feel so homesick for the hustle and bustle. @mrsztobee Thanks for the job selection! FH and I decided I will not work for the first semester to make the transition easier. But when the time comes I will look at that casino.. flexible hours are ideal.
