While he was at university, Mr CL took an extra-curricular class in British Sign Language and gained his level 1 qualification. He’s been talking for a while about possibly taking the level 2, but never really made much progress with it. Out of the blue on Monday, he forwarded me an email saying he’d been offered a place on a level 2 class (which I didn’t know he’d even applied for!) which starts tonight, and he said he didn’t know whether or not to go for it. I told him I’d support him if he decided to do it, but it was his decision and to let me know. He never said anything else about it.
This morning, he was about to leave for work and told me he’ll be back really late. I was confused and couldn’t work out why he wouldn’t be home until 10pm. He ‘reminded’ me that he had his class. Now, I’m really pleased that he’s going ahead and doing this because he’s really interested in it and it could be a big advantage for him at work. But he never actually told me he was going to take the class! It costs £600 ($950), and he was just going to write out the cheque without even checking what was in our joint account! I’ve now transferred the money in from my savings as his aren’t easily accessible…
Sigh. He seemed really shocked that he’d forgotten to tell me, and was stammering about “Are you sure it’s OK? I don’t have to take the place if you don’t want.” Obviously I want him to take it, and I’m really proud of him for wanting to self-improve in such a positive way, but it was a little frustrating this morning to have to unexpectedly pay £600 for it. Here’s hoping he remembers to book an appointment with the registrar for us to give notice of marriage otherwise he’ll really be in the doghouse when he gets home!
I can’t be the only one who’s been left in the dark about something recently! Anybody else?
