- Wedding: June 2012
3 months post-wedding, I finally have the pictures to write my last recap!
My dad and I made a birdhouse-shaped cardbox and painted bird salt and pepper shakers to sit next to it.
I collected pictures of our parents & grandparents on their wedding days or early in their marriage. Only one grandparent was actually able to be there, so the photo display felt like a way to honor their importance in our lives.
Next to the pictures, I had a vase with roses from my grandmother’s garden. She is no longer able to care for them (she has advanced Alzheimer’s), but my aunt has taken over their care, and it felt very special to be able to use some of the flowers that always gave my grandma such joy.
I made the “Just Married” bunting with scrapbook paper, as well one that said “Thank You” for the gift table (no pictures of that).
My dad wrote us a song and performed it in place of a toast.
Our first dance was to Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender.”
Then we had our mother-son/father-daughter dance to “What a Wonderful World.”
My mom, sister and I arranged all our centerpieces (more about that here), I made our table numbers with pictures of us at ages 1-13, and my husband and I put together the personalized hugs and kisses favors.
My aunt made our cake. Everyone says they forget to eat at their wedding, but I set aside time to eat cake, and all three flavors (white cake with raspberry filling, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and carrot cake with cream cheese icing) were delicious!
Here’s one photo of the dancing. I love the similar poses of our toddler friend in the background and our friend on the right.
Thanks for letting me relive our wedding day!
