Yesterday Ms. Spring Roll made a post about these really cool paper ornaments. I was going to try and make them this weekend. Anyone have any experience with them?
The instructions are for Christmas ornament sized balls, but I was going to quadruple the recipe (is that the right word?) to make them bigger. Who knew I’d ever have to use pi*r squared again!?
I was also going to see if I could use a vinyl or wallpaper type material to see if I could make something a little sturdier.
So, have you done them before? AND do you think it’ll work?

I saw that post and was going to try them too. I love the wallpaper idea! Let us know how it works cause I def plan on trying this one!

I definitely want to do these too! I’m not quite sure where I’m going to stick them yet, but they’re so cool. I was going to play around with a couple tomorrow.

I don’t have any tips, but wanted to say good luck! I thought I hated crafts but after seeing so many cute things on Weddingbee I’ve had to give it a try with some success…and some failure.

I’ll let you know. I’m going to try a sturdier wire (like picture hanging wire) to give it some more structure. I picture a dark blue with a damask-like gold pattern and then a champagne color for the alternating strips in the above mentioned heavier vinyl or wallpaper material.
In perusing the web, I found one person recommending gluing the strips at the top and bottom to make the whole structure hold together better.
Wish me luck! (Oh, I’m so not good with crafts!)

To reinforce the hole in the strip you might buy those paper reinforcer stickers… The one’s you use around the holes in your loose leaf paper before you put them in a binder.

Well, they worked! We did a few of the small ones that are detailed in the original post, but we quickly scaled up to 1 inch by 21 inch strips with a heavy paper. They are not perfect spheres (nor are they supposed to be), but they are super easy to do, and I think they are going to throw off some cool light.
I did a whole blog post about them on my blog, and will try to recreate the post here if people are interested. Ugh, upload is not working…
You can see them here:

Great job doctorgirl! They look awesome! I’m gonna attempt some later on this week, I just did a couple of the Martha Stewart tissue paper flower balls last week. This will definitely be my next DIY project.
