As far as I know Mucinex only works with chest and head congestion.

My aunt had trouble conceiving years ago, and after several failed attempts at fertility treatments, her doctor’s wife (who was a friend) recommended she take Robitussin for the same reasons you mention Mucinex. She had my cousin, and then 2 years later immediately used Robitussin and got pregnant with my other cousin without any need for treatments. So, even if there might not be scientific proof that it works, it might be worth the try!

The book Taking charge of your fertility also talks about using expectorants to get a better quality CM. I tried it once and did notice a mild change.  A word of warning though be very careful which brand you buy since most has antihistamine which is attributable to having the opposite effect of drying up you CM.

I say it wouldn’t hurt to try, and let us know if you notice a difference.

Mucinex, or any brand of expectorant will thin your CM potentially making it easier to conceive. The effect will likely be minimal but I know when TTC you’ll take any help you can get! Like @picturemeurs said, be careful the product you purchase does not contain any other medications. Antihistamines will dry you up and other cough & cold medications may be harmful if you do become pregnant. Check and make sure the product contains only guaifenasin!
