My cycles are kind of long and irregular, so I always start testing early. I tested on CD 8, CD 10 and CD 13-16, all of which were negative. I’ve been testing every morning since and they’ve all been positive “high fertility” on the Clear Blue advanced digital test. That’s 5 positive but no peak yet. However my fertility friend chart says I ovulated on CD 17 because my temp went up today.
I’m not sure if I really ovulated yet though because I always get ovulation pains and get gassy in the morning and I haven’t had them yet. And if I already did then we didn’t try enough because my husband has been working late and has been too tired so I’m gonna be disappointed. Is it normal to get so many positive days before a peak day? I’m confused 🙁

HeatherMM, I too had two positive reads this month with prolonged cycle. After multiple months of just OPK use and no charting/tempting, I learned that some women can have a “surge” days prior to their ovulation. So the OPK will pick up on those reads and indicate that ovulation is pending, when actually it happens days after. I had a strong OPK read on CD 19 and when my temperature didn’t spike and I felt O pains, I took additional OPK tests and got strong positive reads on CD 32, 33, and 34.
My best bet is that you ovulated on CD 17. Your temperature went up and the OPK read is positive. Keep monitoring your temperature and see if the elevated temperature stays above your coverline. Good luck!

@NowandLater: I’ve never had so many positive tests. Granted I’ve only been using the OPK for 2 cycles, but the the first cycle I only had one positive. Then last month I switched to the digital tests and I had one positive high then the next day was positive peak. Is it normal to have all these positives after ovulation? I just don’t feel like I’ve ovulated yet because my stomach will hurt and I get pretty bad cramps.

Honestly, with all of the open circles, I think it’s going to be really hard for FF to give you an accurate assessment, and you will probably end up with musical crosshairs. Who was it… @aliciapdx: , I think – who thought she was having positive OPKs way after ovulation. In the end THOSE were the +s and she ended up pregnant!
I’m going to disagree with the PP and guess that you might end up with a delayed ovulation. (It’s also totally possible to get +opks and not ovulate, so that could have happened earlier too!)

@Mrs.LemonDrop: That’s what I was thinking, that FF is saying I ovulated because of the spike in my temp this morning, but I don’t think it’s accurate. But I don’t know how many positives are normal before ovulation either, so I’m just entirely confused and disappointed that we maybe missed our opportunity this cycle if I did already ovulate.

@HeatherMM: I would say keep BDing. I will also say though that I get 1, MAYBE 2 +s the whole time. Which means I have to use a lot of sticks. I have no idea what’s “normal” though because I think it just varies a lot.

@Mrs.LemonDrop: We’re going to keep trying in case I haven’t o’d yet. I don’t know if there is a normal either, but I don’t know if 5 high positives is strange with no peak positive yet.

I’m going to assume the FF finding that I ovulataed already is wrong because I got a positive peak fertility test today. Plus I’m having my normal pains and cramps I normally get when I ovulate. Yay!

@aliciapdx: Thank you! It just really sucks that I had all those positive days before today and we were barely even trying because he’s been so tired when he gets home 🙁

@HeatherMM: I typically get two days of positive OPK’s before ovulating.
Question for you though, are you taking your temperature at the same time daily? I see lots of open dots which I believe on my chart indicates you changed the time of day for testing.
It is really important to test daily at the same time to ensure consistency. Per FF: When temperatures fluctuate a great deal, it is usually due to inconsistencies in temperature taking methods. Make sure you are taking your temperature at the same time every day, when you first wake up, after a solid block of sleep, and with a BBT thermometer.

@Treejewel19: It’s not always at the same exact time but pretty close. I don’t always wake up at the same time every day.
