We’re having an outdoor ceremony and the space is quite far from the nearest building. I love it but unfortunately I wont be able to run any cords that far out. I spoke with our DJ and he suggested we just use an ipod with seakers that he can bring. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Was it loud enough? Any other ideas?….I dont have any room left for live music or that would be my first choice.

Why can’t your DJ run cords and a speaker?

@peachacid: it would have to be the long long extention cord- the ceremony is in the middle of an apple orchard

@papercrafter: If your DJ has said it’s impossible, I would look into getting one of those portable iPod dock/speaker things. Have it set up behind the altar, and ask your officiant or someone to just hit play. Have it cued to the song you want. It’ll be enough for the ceremony…it would be even better if you could have it controlled remotely, but I don’t know if that exists.
Getting married in an apple orchard sounds amazing.

@papercrafter: I woutry investigate renting sound equipment not from a dj. No wat would I pay a DJ to spin from an iPod. For one, mp3’s aren’t a lossless format. For another, I wouldn’t have access to his full catalogue.

I don’t know if this would be feasable for you, but we ended up setting up a series of speakers that were connected to wifi recievers and controlled off a laptop. Darling Husband is an electrical engineer so half of what he did was black magic to me, but he got our outside venue wired up with several wifi speakers and it worked amazing. We used an iphone to remote control the laptop (so we had lossless music).

Fiance and I are renting wireless mics and speakers from a local music shop. We plan to connect a laptop to them to play our music – my brother in law will run the laptop.
For one day, I think the equipment comes to $20 (including tax) so not bad at all 🙂
