@USER876: I agree that having music just means they have bad web presentation, it doesn’t automatically mean they suck at photography too. However, I have spent a lot of time studying user behavior, and a lot of users strongly dislike having to deal with music on a website, and many won’t even bother dealing with it at all (as in they just hit the back button and surf to the next potential company).

It’s sort of like selling a house. A house can have so much potential and value, yet no one will buy it because they hate the drapes.

@BeeM: I know I said I wasn’t going to respond, but I’ve been on these boards for almost four years (between this and my bride name), and the drama only started when you showed up! USER and I had a spat once, but we’ve since made peace, and when we disagree, we PM to keep our crap off the boards like any mature person would. You might want to try doing the same.

I personally do not like the music on photographers’ websites at all.  It turns me off.  I usually open sites in multiple tabs and click through them one by one, so it annoys me when I’m looking at another site and suddenly music starts playing!

I dont think I would like it if a book started randomly playing [email protected] music to me so I could get a better feel for it either.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. 99% of the time TURN THE MUSIC OFF, my god! Especially if it’s a personal blog. Annoys the crap out of me.

Now, photographers …. eehh. I can see the appeal. My photographer has well-chosen music (I think) but yeah, I totally turn it off.

Now, the thing that REALLY gets me is spelling errors or simple grammatical mistakes. Especially if its something like coarse/course or definitely/defiantly. It totally makes me think less of them & I won’t even consider using their services no matter how much I like their work.

I guess I am one in the SMALL few but I like the music on my photographer’s website.  It wasn’t overbearing, I liked all of his photos, and even tho the photos were of different couples….. the background music helped me envision it being ME! I know everyone is bashing the music… but it seems like people are prefering music on the poll votes.

Also, when I want an uplift in my spirits, its nice going to my photographer’s website to envision my soon to be future.

One other thing…. at least if you do put music on the website… people have the ability to turn it OFF or ON.  Its not set in stone people.

I don’t mind music if it’s in a specific section of a website.  If I see a Slideshow section, I assume there will be music.  If I see a video section, I assume the videos will have music.

I prefer that there is a section where I can just look at photos without music too.  Music on the frontpage?  Don’t like it.  Mostly because my speakers are always turned up too high and it startles me.  If I’m clicking into a section that I know will have music I check my volume beforehand.

Sorry for another post… but maybe everyone has different “music” experience on different websites. The website is of my photographer, and altho I enjoy his photos, the music on the website made me excited. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

@maskelunass: The poll doesn’t ask if you prefer music.  It simply asks if music on the website influences your opinion/perception of the photographer.  This can be negative or positive.  So the poll doesn’t mean 52% like music.  It means 52% say it affects their perception of the photog, be it good or bad.

The thread topic on the other hand addresses preference…”yay or nay” to music.  If you read through all the comments they are overwhelmingly opposed to music on a photographer’s website.
