I originally wanted to walk down the aisle to Ave Maria. I asked a friend if she knew a female vocalist who could sing it. She texts me later & tells me she not only knows a vocalist, but that she wants to accompany the singer on the piano as part of our gift. I also just found out that the vocalist is WAY expensive… She didn’t contact me with her price until yesterday.
Cue last night – my fiance is an amazing singer & guitar player, and he went to the recording studio and recorded a song for me to walk down the aisle to! It was going to be a surprise, but he couldn’t hold it in. I listened to it and just bawled… I can’t imagine using any other song now.
Is there a way to break the news to my friend without hurting feelings? Should we suck it up, pay the vocalist, and use Ave Maria elsewhere?

@Grizz: drop the vocalist! she’s too expensive – just tell you’re friend about the amazing song FH wrote and recorded for you and she’ll understand.

Ask the friend if she can play the piano during your unity ceremony. 🙂

how romantic! i would see if your friend could still play the piano but i would drop the vocalist.

I was so excited for you when you said your FH wrote a song…use it! Tell your friend that he surprised you with the song and she will understand. Your friend could play Ave Maria during the unity candle, or when guests are being seated/going through the greeting line at the end.

Just kindly explain to your friend that you really appreciate her very kind offer but your fiance wrote and recorded a personal song for you and it would mean a lot to him for you to walk down the aisle to it.

If she’s a true friend, she will understand when you tell her about the change in plans. Skip the vocalist who is too expensive.

That is so romantic! If she’s a good friend, she will understand completely and be happy for you.

I like the idea of having her play Ave Maria for the unity candle or some other part of the ceremony (minus the expensive vocalist!). She’ll definitely understand I would think be really, super happy for you!
