We are having an outdoor ceremony and plan on using the house’s sound system for the music (we are getting married in the backyard and there are outdoor speakers), and just speaking loudly for the ceremony.  I really don’t like the idea of using a microphone during a ceremony (and luckily our wedding will be small so we don’t have to).

For music/speaking if you don’t have electricity… you can really easily rent a sound system from your rental company, or buy an all-in-one speaker/microphone/boom box set on amazon (these are pretty cheap and are geared towards tailgating, so if you think you will use it again, it probably makes sense to buy v. rent).

What is your plan for the reception are you having a DJ? If there is a outlet inside that is on an exterior wall they should be able to run a exterior grade electrical cord outside. Ask your venue coordinator what they have done in the past.

We’re having a outdoor ceremony and our DJ has worked there before so he knows the sound quality and length of cord necessary etc.

We are having an outdoor ceremony. but there is electricity. I was going to do ipod music for the ceremony and just have speakers, but now I am going to have a local artist who sings and plays piano. She is going to bring a keyboard and mic.

Where are you having your wedding? Are you sure that there is no electricity? We looked at an outdoor ceremony site that looked like it didn’t have electricity because it was all underground. We would have had to pay the city to hook it up a few days before the wedding and put temporary outlets out for us.
