I am Part Muskogee Creek and part Cherokee (cherokee from the mothers side, muskogee from my fathers) I’ve been to native american programs, pow wows and such but haven’t had much teachings in the muskogee traditions. My Grandmother passed away on Sunday and even before, but more so now, I would love to incorporate my muskogee heritage in her honor on my wedding day. I have been searching online but coming up empty handed, I would have asked her before she passed but she became mute after a massive stroke years back before I was even dating my fi.
It’s been important to me. I at the least was planning to wear moccassins and some other forms of native american attire but I wish to incorporate the traditions of my heritage to honor my grandmother.
Any ideas, places to look or information on the specific muskogee creek traditions or marital prayers? Or perhaps a prayer (with translation) that would do well for the vows?
I would greatly appreciate any help or knowledge, unfortunately when I had the chance to learn of my heritage I was young and not that interested, now that I am I’ve lost the chance to learn.
