No, but they should carry something, to keep them from getting fidgety.

I think that they should have something, and bouquets are the easiest option. you may ask them their opinions, but I know I would prefer to have something to feel less awkward with how I’m standing. If you want to lower costs you can try a single stem, use fake flowers, or make felt/button bouquets.

No, but as the others have said, carrying something gives you something to do with your hands, so you don’t look so awkward up there.

If you are outdoors, parasols are very trendy right now.

Personally, I’m going with a complicated bouquet for myself, and a simpler one with just one of the flowers (tulips) in my bouquet. Not that expensive.

They don’t have to carry a bouquet. Some other options might be a clutch, fan, or parasol. Just google bridesmaid pictures/image and you can get an idea for more options.

Honestly, if the Groomsmen can manage to avoid fidgeting while not carrying anything, so can the BMs.  There are alternatives to flowers for what they carry, or they don’t have to carry anything.

I have decided to go with bouquets for my girls, because my mom has made the flowers for my two sisters weddings and I want her to make them for mine too.  At first, I had thought about parasols for the girls.  A good place to look for paper parasols is http://www.lunabazaar.com

I definitely like bouquets.  There are other creative ideas.  But I must admit, I love the flowers. I’d be bummed as a Bridesmaid or Best Man if I didn’t have a bouquet.  And the color you can use with bouquets to contrast..  And even decorate the head table at the reception are nice.  But with that said, the bouquets could be handmade from whole sale markets.

my friends wedding she had them carry a single calla lilly. that looked real nice with their blue dresses. you could do single flower with a lot of flowers. bouquets are highly priced, however you could make them small, use flowers that are in season so they cost less, and do it yourself. you could make a pretty bouquet for under 30 a piece. i made this one for $25
