I really do not want to have extra desserts at my wedding due to the extra cost and space. Is that horrible to only offer my cupcakes. I am having a big cupcake tower. Will the venue look bad without a dessert table? I am not having any additional food tables actually. Bad?

You don’t need a dessert table. I don’t think it’s a standard to have one, or even expected.

I’ve only been to one wedding that had a dessert table. Most just have cake.

We’re just having cake. Usually by the time dessert is served, I’m already ready for the dance floor! I don’t think it’s a big deal to leave it out–to us it seemed like an unnecessary expense.

We’re only having an ice cream bar. I think just cupcakes will be fine.

There are no “musts” when it comes to the menu.

We’re not having cake, just a Viennese pastry table. Guests willl enjoy whatever dessert you serve — cake or otherwise — and it’s unlikely they would expect both.

There doesnt have to be a dessert table, most weddings only have the wedding cake as a displayed dessert.

A cupcake tower is just fine. I’ve been to a few weddings where it was only cupcakes.
I will say this, though: make sure you have enough cupcakes! They ran out on all the weddings I went to because people seemed to take one of each flavor vs. one per person.

Nothing is expected… do exactly what you want! I will likely just have cupcakes as well and everyone will be happy I am sure. At most weddings I’ve been to, I’ve forgotten to get cake anyway!

@oracle: Good point about the cupcakes. Thanks. I will keep that in mind.

It doesn’t matter. A dessert table is just a bonus. Cupcakes/Cake is enough. Congratulations!!
