@skippydarling  I hear you, but there IS a huge difference in quality between a $10k gown and a $2k gown.  I was shocked by how chintzy some of the dresses for $2k, $3k cost… even at that price, you can be dealing with polyester, which seems ridiculous to me.

Once you get up into the $5k+ realm, you’re dealing with finer fabrics such as silk, and the hand beading and embroidery is unreal. (I once saw Chanel couture in person and literally CRIED at how beautiful it was. Because it’s so rare for most of us to see SUCH amazing, handmade things of beauty.)

And then there are things like French lace costing more than Spanish lace, for instance… could the Spanish lace be as nice? Sure. But people want *French* lace, so they’ll pay for it.

Even if I could afford that kind of dress, I wouldn’t do it — too much money for a dress you wear once. (And yeah, a LOT is due to the designer name and the fact that it’s a *wedding* dress.) But I do think there’s a huge difference in workmanship and quality. Just not enough for me to drop crazy crazy cash on it!

@tinypaws  Oh – I don’t doubt the quality is better.

But as someone not in the fashion industry – as a guest – I could tell you a difference between an $800 and a $3000 dress  But differing between a 3K and 10K dress?  I wouldn’t be able to tell.
