- Wedding: June 2011
I went to one of those chain bridal stores and had such a BAD experience that I figured what the heck! I searched the internet for a few days about ordering a custom (or made to measure) wedding dress via eBay and this is what I have concluded.
1-Most of the brides that had a good experience with buying a custom dress from ebay did their homework. They searched several different sellers and read thru lots and lots of feedback. Don’t just look at the overall feedback score either, but actually read thru a couple of pages worth of comments. If the seller has a feedback score of 100% but they’ve been selling dvds for the last 6 months and now they’re trying to sell you a custom wedding gown, run away!
2-Communication is key! Once I found a seller on ebay that had excellent feedback, I emailed them with some questions. They replied to me each time I emailed them within less than a few hours. Yes, their english was a little broken because they were located in China, but I understood them fine.
3-Get your measurements done professionally. I didnt do this because I knew how to take mine correctly, but if you’re not sure call a tailor. Also, dont forget to tell the seller to add extra inches for every inch your high heel shoes are going to add to you.
I’ve posted some pictures of me in my dress as is was when it came out of the package. It wasn’t too wrinkled and it fits like a glove! I was really worried it woudnt fit or it would be cruddy fabric, but it’s excellent and it was the best $180 I have ever spent. It only took about 4 weeks and the shipping was included in the price. I LOVE it!
One more thing, just to avoid the jabs. Before you cry “sweatshop” at me try to remember that most of our garmets are made in China in factories, not sweatshops. 90% of all wedding gowns (even some designer ones) are made in China. Fabrics like silk and organza are way less expensive in China and that cost is passed on to you. Not everyone can afford to pay $100s and $1000s for a wedding dress (I coudn’t) and Ive read sooooo many posts on different websites across the internet from brides-to-be wanting to know more about buying a dress on ebay and having it made. That is exactly why I am sharing my experience you you. I hope this helps 🙂
