- Wedding: September 2013
We were married 9-21 in Southwest Michigan, and it was perfect. We had 36 guests, and to anyone who is considering having a small wedding, I say this– do it! Do it now. I have no regrets, and I’m so glad we decided to share the night with our closest friends and family rather than eloping (which I’d considered). Keeping the guest list small meant we could spend quality time with everyone.
By having a small wedding, I was also able to really go all out with small details and DIY projects. I sometimes wondered if I’d ever finish making little washi tape name flags, and if I never see another yarn pom pom again, it’ll be too soon. But I’m really proud of how everything turned out. Ladies who DIY for hundreds of guests, you have my admiration.
My photographer just posted a big Facebook preview, so please excuse me if I go a little picture crazy. 🙂
We opted to pour a black and tan for our unity ceremony instead of sand. 🙂
Audrey at Lake Effect Florals in Chesterton, IN did my arrangements and I can’t recommend her highly enough!
When in St. Joseph…you gotta ride the carousel!
We had a bit of an atypical reception. There was a cocktail hour after the ceremony, followed by a two hour dinner. No DJ or anything like that. Once dinner and dessert were over at 9pm, those guests who wanted to continue the festivities joined us at a nearby bar where we’d reserved space and set up a tab. There happened to be a live musician playing that night, so we had an impromptu first dance at the bar. 🙂
And finally, some decor pics.
We have pet chickens, hence the cake toppers.
When people say “it goes so fast, enjoy every second” it is SO true. When they say things will go wrong, that is also true. But when I say it was a perfect day, I mean it.
Couldn’t have done it without my amazing vendors:
The Boulevard Inn, St. Joseph – ceremony/reception venue and catering
Dee’s Specialty Cakes – cake (www.deesspecialtycakes.com)
Affinity Salon and Spa – hair/makeup/nails
Lake Effect Florals – flowers (www.lakeeffectflorals.com)
The Buck, St. Joseph – after party
and my amazing photographer, Amy Straka. (www.amystraka.com)
i would not hesitaye to recommend all these vendors to anyone getting married in SW Michigan or NW Indiana.
My sister Erin did all the paper products
My sweet aunt sewed the two mobiles and 40 patterned napkins
Dress is from Memories bridal in Kalamazoo, MI (www.dresslikeyou.com)

Sorry for the super long post! Now, does anyone need any yarn pom poms?? 🙂
