For my guestbook sheets I created a template similar to the following:

I am going to make a bunch of copies of these sheets and put them in a nice basket on a table. I will probably place a note similar to the following:
A plain ol’ guestbook just won’t do,
we want art, advice, and a thought or two.
sse your creativity, whatever it may take,
To help us create a special wedding keepsake.
I will have a box of some sort similar to a card box on the table for people to place their completed papers in. I am a little concerned not everyone will fill one out but I will have the MC make an announcement and I think the ones we do get back will be worth it.
I will then take each completed sheet of paper and place them in a special binder of some sort.
Do you think this is a good idea?

I think it is really cute with one addition.
I would never want to try to draw myself (and I think many people would be the same way) so you will probably have a ton of people who would leave that area blank. Instead of having them draw themselves, maybe you could print off a picture of each person/couple/family/etc after the wedding and paste it in that opening.
To do this you could:
- Have someone take pictures of each person/couple/family during the cocktail hour
- Have disposable cameras on each table or by the guest book sheets (or both) and ask people to take a picture of themselves to go with the guestbook
- If you’re having a photobooth, take the pictures from that to use on the guestbook pages.
Then you still have all the cute info and advice with a nice picture of the person/couple/family while at your wedding. Much nicer than a goofy looking stick figure (or blank space).
