I’ve been in a happy daze ever since I got engaged but now I’m excited to tell my proposal story! About a month and a half ago, my SO told me to take off the week of Thanksgiving because he wanted to take me on a trip to a surprise destination. We’ve been dating for about 4 years and we haven’t taken a vacation with just the two of us in a long time so I was stoked! Since my work schedule was seriously insane last month, I was relieved to not have to do any planning- a real treat! I am normally a control freak and plan entire vacations by myself so this was a huge challenge for me, but also really fun. Days before our trip I found out that the weather would be about 50 degrees and that was the only packing guidance I had. I found out in the cab that we were going to the airport and when the cab stopped at the Air France check-in desk, I got super excited! He checked us in and there was our final destination on the screen: Paris, France!!!!!!!!!! Of course, I squealed with joy and embarassed him with my PDAs.
We arrived in France and spent the first few days just walking around the city holding hands and being very sappy. One of the romatic moments we shared was sitting on the steps below Sacre Couer and sharing a bottle of wine (when in Paris, do as the locals do) and whispered sweet nothings to eachother. It reminded me of when we did something similar at the Champ de Mars (base of the Eiffel Tour) three years ago- which was the most romantic night of my life until the proposal.
On our second to last day, we went to Versailles where we spent the afternoon walking around the gardens. For lunch we rented a boat and grabbed some paninis. We rowed around the Grand Canal and it was so romantic! We headed back to Paris and I notices the Eiffel Tour was one of the train stops. I suggested that we stop there and take some pictures- it was just about dusk and the lighting would be perfect. He’d been stealing my DSLR from me all week and I knew he would want to take pictures of the Eiffel Tour. We walked under the Eiffel Tour and as predicted, he stole my camera and made me follow him to the grassy areas of the Champ de Mars. We kissed and, I swear, right after we kissed, the Eiffel Tour lit up!!! Then, he told me to put the camera away and he started saying some really sweet things to me. He said, “Do you know why I wanted to take you to Paris?” (I said No). He continued, “I wanted to take you here because three years ago, somewhere on a bench nearby, I just knew you were the one.” Then, He got on one knee and asked me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the most amazing propsal!!! We then went up to the Eiffel Tour and later had dinner and a wonderful evening.
The next day he told me he had one more surprise. We walked to the pedestrian bridge by point neuf and I saw that it was filled with “lover’s locks.” He explained to me that lovers go to that bridge, write messages on the lock, afix them to the bridge, and then they are supposed to throw the keys into the river. This symbolizes their love will be there forever. He then pulled out a lock and a sharpie! We now have a lock on the bridge with our names and engagement date on it. I hope to go back there with him and write our return dates on our lock.
Seriously, Ladies, I have my dream man, got a proposal and ring beyond my wildest dreams and I just couldn’t be happier!!!!!!!!!!!
