I understand that politics is a hot topic and I respect everyones right to vote and choose who they believe is the best candidate. That being said I have not stated my political views on FB or any other social media sites because that is between me and the ballot box. I also dont comment on political post or anything else that might seem to be pushing one way or the other.
However my aunt has been on FB night and day touting how a vote for Obama is a vote against christianity. I have never said one word. So I hid her feed because I didnt want to see it.
So recently she asked everyone in our family who they were voting for. Again I said thats between me and the ballot box. She proceeded to berate everyone who wasnt voting for her candidate and to gush with those who did vote for her candidate.
So this morning I made the only statement concerning voting. I said Please everyone go out and vote, which candidate it doesnt matter. People have fought and died for you to have the right to vote so please exercise it.
Then she sends me a private message and said there is a wrong way to vote. Voting for that muslim loving socialist is against christianity and I should be ashamed of myself and she cant believe my parents raised me to be anti christian, anti government and anti american.
I served my country for 8 years in the military, I was injured in the line of duty. My Fiance has served for 20 years and my son is currently servin in Afghanistan.
I said well Im sorry you feel that way. I said what I choose to do is my busy and no one elses. She said well I guess Obama converted himself another muslim loving socialist.
I blocked her then,.
GAH I cant believe that people think name calling is going to make me like them or their candidate any better.

Oh. My. God.
I am so sorry that you have to deal with that.
Some people are so ignorant, it blows my mind how they even function in their daily lives.

The only person that will be hurt by her actions in the end is her. Some people feel the need to incite people, though I don’t understand that behavior since I hate this type of confrontation and would never seek it out.

WOW. Your aunt sounds like a real piece of shit.
And no, I’m not voting for Obama, and so I disagree with your political views. Whoop-de-doo.

@TexasSpringBride: That is truly pathetic. I am so sorry you had to deal with that. And you’re a vet? How disgusting and disgraceful. If she is so America-loving, she should give vets the respect they deserve.
People get super crazy over this stuff, especially here in the South. People have been harassing me today, too. But at the end of the day, despite all the name calling and hate, your vote and hers count the same. Life would just be so much easier if everyone calmed the eff down once in a while.
PS- Islam and Christianity are not incongruent to one another. If you would replace the roles and say this exchanged happened in Saudi Arabia, perhaps, she would sound like a terrorist. And anti-government? I mean, isn’t SHE being anti-government?

I’d send her a message right back saying how saddened you are by how unchristian she is being. Seriously people, jesus was all aboulove love and tolerance! When will people get that?

Wow, she is crazy to think it is ok to talk to people like that. Not very Christian either.

Ugh. I am so sorry you had to deal with that – pure bullshit. People like your aunt are the reason I am nervous today :/

@TexasSpringBride: Oh MY! I’m so sorry she did that to you. Her ridiculous behavior is anything but Christian. Some people are so confused about the lines between being a Christian and the way you vote. She is definitely the one in the wrong here so don’t let her get to you.
Thank you, your Fiance, and your son for your service to our country and for fighting for the freedoms we have, including voting. I am forever grateful for those who choose military service.

Wow, that’s awful.
There are so many problems with this I hardly know where to begin.
Thank you for your service and know that you have done nothing wrong and neither has anyone else who voted from an informed position, whether it was for Obama or not.
(On a personal note, GOBAMA!)

Wow. I can’t believe there are people around that are saying stuff like that.
And to hear that from a family member? I’m sorry.

I would send her a message saying – I am deeply hurt by your words, I am an adult and I have the RIGHT to make my own decisions regarding who I vote for. I don’t want this election to get between us because we are family, but if this continues I will have to block you, on facebook and in real life. Please stop this, I don’t want to have to cut you off completely.

Some people will just never get it. And her comments come no where near “Christain”. She should be ashamed. Sorry you have to deal with that. And thank you to you and your family for your service!

My Father-In-Law told me that I was living under a rock because I don’t think everyone on welfare is a minority race and a druggie, so I understand! It’s sad how ugly people can be about this stuff.

holy crap! That’s crazy… I can’t believe she would treat a family member that way, even if you were spouting Obama-love all over Facebook. it’s your business! politics bring out the worst in people, but this is just sad. I’m sorry you had to deal with her. I hope the rest of your famside makes her feel like an idiot for how she acted.
