My aunt, who I love dearly, seemed to really like my engagement ring. She asked me where we got it and who made it and I thought she was just making conversation.
Last night we had a family dinner and she wanted to show me her new ring- it is the same setting as my engagement ring! She went down to the same jeweler where I got my ring and said she tried looking at other designers and other styles, but she really loved that one best. So she got it and put her original stone in the ring.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. I guess it’s a complement that she liked it so much she got it too (I picked out the ring- so I guess I have good taste?). But it’s also a little weird that my aunt and I are twinsies.
Also, I guess they are slightly different because mine was custom ordered to have 6 prongs instead of 4, but besides that it is the same setting.
Pictures of my ring in case you are curious or want to be triplets with my aunt and I, lol. What do you think bees?

@HeartsandSparkles: Definitely weird. Definitely a compliment. Nothing to get upset over, though!

As long as you had it first , I dont think it should be anything to get upset over, or even mind. She’s copying your style, just take it as a compliment. 🙂

@HeartsandSparkles: weird and a compliment at the same time…

I’d be a little annoyed. Its a bit weird

I think its a compliment, and whilr the side view is unique, the top view is very common now-a-days.

Is it a Verragio? Because they have SO many styles. I’d be kind of weirded out but oh well.

@HeartsandSparkles: While imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I do think it was quite insensitive of her to get the same ring. Everyone wants to think they have something special that is only for them, especially for an engagement ring!
At least she got 4 prongs so it’s not exact. A few questions though. Does hers have a better/bigger diamond (or cz/moissanite) than yours? Is she normally just insensitive or is she competitive too?

I agree with a PP that from the top view, that is a fairly classic and common style. While it’s gorgeous and stunning, it isn’t particularly unusual if you know what I mean.
However, the side view is pretty distinctive. So in other words your aunt got this exact same ring with the same side details as you?? You would think she could at least pick out something similar, instead of the exact same model!!
I would find that odd. I would honestly feel frustrated as well. Sorry this happened to you! Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it, so try not to think about it.

I don’t get why it’s weird. She saw something and liked it. I mean, it’s not as if anyone has a monopoly on ring styles like that.

Kinda weird, but not a big deal.

I’d be pissed.
She could have at least asked you if it would bother you, since obviously you were the one who told her where you got it and she didn’t express that she was gonna go look at getting the same one.
I think she was seriously sly & I would lose a lot of respect for her, honestly. Mostly because she didn’t think she she did was underhanded & she didn’t even bother to tell you before she showed up with your e-ring replica.

I’d think it’s a bit odd but wouldn’t let it bother me, and I certainly wouldn’t raise the issue with her. Did she show you in a competitive manner?

Well, I think it’s a bit weird, but really, that syle is SO common now, that even if she’d gone to aother store, she could have found something similar and noone would notice if it was identical or not. It’s a beautiful ring!

@akirasan: Yeah, it’s Verragio! She said she looked at other Verragio’s and other designers but this one was just her favorite.
@gemgirl6: I’m not sure if her diamond is better or bigger- I didn’t really think about it. Mine is CZ anyway, hers has her original engagement ring diamond. I love my aunt, but she’s always been competitive and kinda a selfish person.
@BelliniChic: I like that the top is pretty classic- but the side is detailed and different. To answer your question, my aunt’s ring is EXACTLY the same on the side. Verragio has dozens of different styles she could have picked instead. Oh well.
@Kat: I’m not angry, but I did find it odd- she didn’t need a new setting, she hadn’t talked about getting a new setting, and then she said- “Oh, look at my new ring!” and put her hand in my face. And then she was talking about how much it was appraised for and she was very proud about it.
I still love my ring- just thought it was kinda weird and wanted to know what you all thought- Thanks for the feedback ladies! 🙂
