My cat has to go to the vet for the first time and I’m freaking out.
Over the last couple days her meow got really hoarse and croaky and now her purring is really wheezy and almost sounds like she’s got a frog in her throat 🙁 She’s also doing a weird cough/hack thing that occasionally results in her hiccuping up a little bile.
She doesn’t seem to have a runny nose or watery eyes, she’s eating normally (dry and wet food), drinking normally, running around playing with the other cat. She’s overall acting normal, just less ok with being held and snuggled. She still jumps up on your lap if you’re trying to do something like read or crochet or play video games.
But the difference in her meow and purr is enough to make me take her in ASAP.
I’m really praying that it’s not going to be a crazy expensive problem because I’m dealing with a bunch of my own dental crap right now. But she’s my first baby D:

Everything will be fine! Im sorry, I know how that feels, I still get really anxious when I take my pets to the vet, like they are going to tell me bad news or something. If anything, it sounds like a little infection in the respiratory area. Nothing a few antibiotics cant squash!

It could actually be allergies .
It could also be a URI (upper respiratory infection) – which is easy to diagnose and easily treated, as long as you don’t mind shoving some pills down her throat. How’s your other cat?
One other thing – have you been running your heater? Their airways dry out just like ours and she might be more sensitive to it.

Aw–they will take great care of your baby!! One of my kitties that was a rescue has chronic respiratory issues from when he was on the streets and very sick. They usually just dose him with antibiotics. I’m sure everything will be okay but I’ll say an extra prayer to St. Francis for you! 🙂

ShabbyChicBee: MrsYokiman: thank you!
fyrefly816: our other cat seems to be Fine, no changes at all. The furnace is running but our house is pretty humid usually, and we didn’t have any troubles with her last winter. The allergies could be it tho, I did spray Feliway on the couches so the other would hopefully stop scratching. Ah fingers crossed.
I don’t know how she would be with pills. So here’s hoping I can crush and mix them with her wet food
