My fiance and I are in a long distance relationship for half of the year while I’m in college in Florida. He was scheduled to visit me for his Spring Break. I was very excited! He told me that during Spring Break he was taking me on a surprise weekend getaway. I had no idea where we were going. Florida has a lot of fun things to do. He did tell me to pack a nice dress for a fancy dinner and clothes to walk around in.
We got in the car on Friday morning, March 22nd, 2013. He wouldn’t let me look out the window. I had to put a sweatshirt over my head so I couldn’t see! Finally we arrive at our destination – Disneyworld! Despite going to college in Florida I had never been to Disney. It turned out to an excellent first trip.
He booked us a room at Coronado Springs Resort. We dropped off our bags, picked up our tickets (and my “First Visit” pin), and set off for Magic Kingdom. We rode rides and had so much fun all day. Then we went back to the resort to get ready for the fancy dinner. It turns out he had gotten us a reservation at Victoria & Albert’s, a 5 star restaurant in the Grand Floridian. Oh my goodness the food was magnificant. I felt like a princess.
The whole day I had been really looking forward to the fireworks – I love fireworks! So after dinner we went back to the resort quickly to change and then headed to Magic Kingdom to see the fireworks. We pushed our way through the crowd (gathered for the parade, not the fireworks yet) and got to the front right by Cinderella’s Castle. I didn’t know why he wanted to be so close. I kept stopping and being like “this is okay” and he would be like “NO!” haha.
Finally the “Wishes” fireworks started. About halfway through the fireworks display he whispers in my ear “If you could have anything in the world right now, what would it be?” to which I responded “I don’t know” (like an idiot!). He then whispered “I have an idea” and got down on one knee (to which I went “Oh my God!”) and asked me to marry him. He was only down on his knee for about a second though because I started crying and shaking so much that he thought I was going to fall over! I couldn’t even remember if I said yes because I was overwhelmed with shock and happiness – but he assures me I did! He put the ring on and it was perfect.
A couple came up to us after the proposal, congratulated us, and offered to take a picture!
We went to Epcot the next day and got to wear the cute “Just Engaged” pins! It was basically the best trip of my entire life. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and the love of my life <3
