J and I were discussing the other day why blackheads are such a problem on the nose. It seems to me that everyone has them.  It is super annoying.

Thanks for the tip.  I will look into buying a blackhead eraser.  Do you have a link/suggestion where I could find one?

thanks for this tip!  I’ve tried biore pore strips and things like that, and they tend to rip my skin off when I remove them, so this idea sounds better.  Believe it or not, using proactive has basically melted away most of my blackheads  but this trick sounds good for an additional method of upkeep!

@LondonAmericana: I’m glad you said that. I tried the strips for a bit and had the same issue then figured I must have crazy skin because the company is still in business and you don’t hear about the missing nose skin biore epidemic anywhere. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks! I’ll have to try this. I have so many stubborn blackheads on my nose that never go away.

I’ve been debating trying this…I have that blackheads-in-every-pore problem too except I have it on my nose, my cheeks, AND my chin, and they are the bane of my existance. I just want smooth skin for once, darnit! I might have to try the blackhead eraser thing now. Thanks for posting your results!

I’m a licensed skincare therapist, and the concept of blackheads is still confusing to most; they’re oxidized plugs of dead skin cells and bacteria settled nicely into your pores, so of course they’re difficult to “erase” or “melt” away.  Most often than not, they need to be manually extracted from your pores.

As you’ve discovered, the best time to remove or handle your skin with blackheads is when your face has been exposed to heat.  This is because heat softens your skin as well as the blackheads, allowing them to be more easily removed.  You’ll find that the best time to do extractions is after a shower, or steaming your face.

In general, to avoid blackheads, you should have a regular skincare routine that includes daily cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.  Those with particularly oily skin or those prone to blackheads should also invest in a good clay treatment mask (to use 2-3x a week) for problem areas to absorb excess oil, build-up, and bacteria.  Exfoliation is also a must for everyone, but its frequency and type (rough, gentle, manual, chemical, etc) depends entirely on your skin type.

That said, I can’t stress enough the importance of using quality professional products.  There are very few drugstore or over-the-counter products I will actually use for my face because so many of them are harsh and/or drying.

I own the blackhead eraser. I think it’s pretty niffty, but DEFINITELY not as great as the OP’s results. I mean, my skin feels soft, but it doesn’t do a whole lot to get rid of the blackheads.. & as far as proactive goes, my skin is super sensitive & that B. Peroxide is absolutely horrible for me!

I hope everybody else has success, but for the most part I agree with @maraschino:; most OTC products are much to harsh for my skin..
