- Wedding: June 2010
I just LOVE celebrating when things get on FABULOUSLY, so please indulge me in ridiculous praise for my BMs.
Back Story: Originally, since our wedding is so small (60 guests) & since most of my friends are moms (and really have justifiably more important things to attend to than the details of my wedding), Fiance & I decided to keep our Wedding Party small – just my Maid/Matron of Honor (dear college friend & my Confirmation sponsor) & his Bridesmaid or Best Man (childhood friend). My Maid/Matron of Honor has been Fantastic (with a capital “F”) & has really done all I could ever ask. But she doesn’t exactly have disposable income & has been a bit concerned about the Bridal Shower & Bach Party (apparently traditionally thrown & hosted by the BMs…of which she was the ONLY one). Another friend (not a mutual one of me & Maid/Matron of Honor, just my friend) has been unbelievably helpful (my workout buddy to help me get in shape) & had offered to host the Bridal Shower .
Fast forward to last week: Fiance apparently has been feeling self-inflictedly guilty about not including his only bro somehow in our wedding &, after much deliberation, asked me if it was cool to include him as Groomsmen (to which I replied “Of course!”). This left me one Bridesmaid or Best Man short. So, last night afterour usual post-mass dinner, I asked Maid/Matron of Honor if she’d be comfortable with other friend as a Bridesmaid or Best Man (they had met at tea I’d arranged so we could talk seriously about other friend’s offer to host the shower – Evidence #1 that my BMs ROCK) and she was enthusiastically for it, despite not knowing other friend as well as I do! (Evidence #2 that my BMs ROCK) Then, Maid/Matron of Honor offered to nix our original plan for her to wear a black dress she already owns for my wedding so that we could get matching black dresses for Maid/Matron of Honor & new Bridesmaid or Best Man (Evidence #3 that my BMs ROCK). That night, in the first store we look into, Maid/Matron of Honor spots the PERFECT dress to complement my wedding dress & gamely tries it on & LOVES it (Evidence #4 that my BMs ROCK).
This morning, at double date brunch with my other friend, I “propose” to her, asking her to be my Bridesmaid or Best Man…despite the fact that she knows I’ve had my Maid/Matron of Honor for months (which other, catty girls would construe as being “sloppy seconds”), she said Yes, enthusiastically (Evidence #5 that my BMs ROCK). Since she & her hubby were free that afternoon (had a babysitter for their super cute 18 month old daughter), they agreed to come with us to look at the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress Maid/Matron of Honor had found last night (Evidence #6 that my BMs – and their husbands – ROCK). Fiance & I went home to pick up my dress to see if Bridesmaid or Best Man dress would look good with it. Before Fiance & I got to the store, Bridesmaid or Best Man had already spotted & picked up the dress – without me pointing it out or even describing it! (Evidence #7 that my BMs ROCK) She tries it on, & LOVES it, too! So she buys it on the spot! (Evidence #8 that my BMs ROCK) As we leave the store, I text Maid/Matron of Honor about our shopping trip…less than 2 hours later, Maid/Matron of Honor texts back that she’s bought HER dress, & is looking forward to getting together to continue pre-wedding party plans & accessory shopping (Evidence #9 that my BMs ROCK). I text Bridesmaid or Best Man the news & see if she’s game to meet & shop anytime (reminder, she’s a mom of a 18 month old) in the next month…she texts back that she’s free any week night & can get a sitter if Maid/Matron of Honor is more available on weekends (Evidence #10 that my BMs ROCK).
So, to recap, in less than 24 hours, I have acquired a new Bridesmaid or Best Man, found the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, BMs have purchased their dresses, & we have plans for our next planning & shopping foray! Could that be a wedding record?
One more time: MY BMs ROCK!!!!
