Hey Bees! So, I posted a few months ago about a boudoir photo session I booked around Valentine’s Day as a fun gift to both myself and my SO. With all the craziness of my recent move, I never got around to actually posting about the experience so I figured with all this time on my hands why not now 🙂
I know for other plus-size ladies like myself, the idea of a sexy photoshoot can be a bit daunting. I was glad that I actually did the shoot with two of my best friends – we all bought the same package and the photographer scheduled us for a 4-hour session together. Having them around made it less awkward because we were all insecure together, which actually made us feel less insecure. I have a dance background, so changing into scanty outfits in front of my friends wasn’t really all that weird, lol.
The photographer was the incredibly talented Dee from http://www.13onephotography.com, based in Rochester, NY. If you’re in the central New York area and need a photographer I *highly* suggest her – she was super professional, and made me feel instantly at ease. What I loved the most was that she gave ideas for poses, but also let me feel things out and try ideas as they came to me. Because we had a 4-hour block of time, each of us was able to shoot in at least 6 outfits (my friend Kelly brought mostly lingerie and ended up shooting in about 10 outfits total).
Here are a few of my personal favourite shots: (note – I am in the process of acquiring the rights and all photos on a CD from the photographer, but I took these as screenshots from her website to share here, hence the giant “copyrighted images” on all of ’em)
(This last one was a last-minute idea I had when we realized we had to finish up the bottle of champagne before leaving – and it ended up being my fave! ^_^)
We went beforehand and got our makeup done at Bare Minerals. The only regret I have is that I wish I had gotten my hair done professionally as well – it kinda frizzed out midway through and didn’t look the best in the second half of the shoot :/ Ah well.
If any other plus-size (or ANY size) gal is on the fence for doing a boudoir shoot, I say GO FOR IT! The boost to my self esteem alone made this experience worth it. Though I’m in the process of trying to get healthier and lose some weight, I look at these pictures and feel such a swelling of pride and happiness with my body and how great I really look. And my boyfriend really loved the pictures, too (there are a lot of racier ones in just underwear that I chose not to post – those were spur of the moment but freeing to shoot).

Forgive me for saying something that may be interpreted as rude, but it’s so nice to see boudoir photos from someone who is confident and not skinny. I think that your outfit choices really worked for your figure and I personally love the fourth shot.
My husband found out about boudoir shoots and has asked me numerous times to do them.. but I’m on my third baby and I’m a size 14, not a 4.
Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

*blush* Thank y’all so much!!
Good luck with your shoot! I’m sure it’ll be AWESOME!!
Not perceived as rude at all – I’m well aware of the size and shape of my body, and I don’t think it’s offensive to acknowledge or be acknowledged for it. I’m happy to be able to show other ladies that you can be a size 22 and still rock your rolls, cellulite and stretch marks!
Don’t let fear hold you back, I’m sure you’ve got a gorgeous photoshoot in you (:
Thank you 🙂 That outfit was definitely my fave, too (and a fun one to wear around the house, it’s so comfy!)
I hope you can!
Mine too! All the shots from that particular angle were amazing, think I might put together a frame with prints of them all to hang in our bedroom.

You’re so brave! Don’t think I’d ever dare try something like that.

I’ve booked to do mine in July. Thanks for posting these because I was thinking of chickening out – I won’t if I can get results like yours! I hope I feel so great after too – I had terrible body image issues for much of my teens and it would be a great way to kick them out for ever! Your pictures look amazing – I love your smile, you really look like you are enjoying yourself!
