after work. He told me he had a meeting tonight and that it may run late well this meeting was in a jewellry store.
He was very upset cause he asked me a couple weeks ago to go on line and find some rings I like. I said I wanted a cushion cut diamond ring with a eternity band. So he found out that he could not afford my dream ring. Really I like the square diamond with the channel setting and that I wanted him to have an idea of what I liked. He then said well then I might have another meeting tomorrow night…hahaha! So its definetely happening soon.
He has made it clear that there would not be any big purposal at all. I’m kinda bummed about this. Its been in the works for some time. So I’m just hoping that he comes up with something nice so we at least have a good story to tell. Anyways, just had to write this down.

It’s possible that he is trying to lower your expectations, so that he can surprise you. 🙂

I agree with Mr Bee…did he do it yet????

What’s his/your idea of “big” b/c that makes a BIG difference.
Most guys I know try to be all sneaky sneaky and get us “down” so they can uplift us. No worries! He wants you to be extra surprised, that’s all

I actually did not want a “big” production out of the engagement. I liked having it be a personal moment between me and Fiance. We ended up having a good story but for us, it was more just getting engaged than getting a show.

So alot of things have happened since I wrote this initial post back in June.
First, there has not been a purposal yet!
Second, we fell into some financial issues and the money we saved for a ring we used to help us get out of that. We are also finally seeing the end of the tunnel! We have started to discuss the engagement again.
Third , we have been working together with our finances officially now since July when our little problem errupted and have found out that we work better as a team in this area. And find ourselves much happier due to this.
We are now both equally excited about taking the plunge and finding the ring. We decided to do the ring shopping together so we both know what kind of financial commitment we are looking at! We have set a realistic budget for this high priced item and plan on going ring shopping soon.
No other details yet but I’ll be sure to post it here.

Sorry it hasn’t happened yet, but it sounds like you’re making some good decisions as a couple. Good luck!

yay on working together as a team and on agreeing to shop for the ring together.

I think ring shopping can be really upsetting for some men. Unlike what the diamond industry would have us believe, not everyone wants to spend the eqivalent of three months salary (or even one month’s worth) on an engagement ring. For example, my husband is working on selling his house, so he still has a morgage to pay on plus the cost of renovation supplies. So for him to buy an expensive ring would have been ridiculous! He bought me an 1/2 carat diamond and that was perfectly ok by me!
The fact that you are both budget conscious and willing to shop together is a very good thing!

@bluespurrs: i completely agree! if m were to spend 3 months salary on his ring i’d be afraid to wear it to be honest with you. i’d rather him pay my suv off or some of my stu loans. i am much more comfortable with a less expensive ring with a ton of meaning behind it.
