I am in the similar situation.
However, thank God my coworkers who are not in the wedding party asked to plan my bridal shower. Which, I am fully funding. I would feel awful having my bridesmaids spend more money since they are already paying for dress, make-up, hair, shoes, jewelry, travel; etc.

@drod: My sister (MOH) didn’t want to have to rent a room for a shower for me- so she’s having it at my mom’s house (her house is not big enough, nor is mine for her to host here)- I am almost positive that my mom will paying for parts of it- just because my sister is notorious for being the biggest tightwad on the planet (I can say that- she’s my sister). My mom did help put a little $$ towards my sister’s shower- I was a Stay-At-Home Mom at the time, and my son’s father was an alcoholic, so money was an interesting thing to come by back then LOL
if your mom doesn’t have a problem paying for it, or at least contributing to it- then I would ask her to step in- I don’t think it’s inappropriate is she is comfortable with it.
