(Closed) My (brilliant?) alternative to seating chart/escort cards/place cards

I am doing escort cards, but not assigned seating.  I like the idea because it allows people to save their seat and still feel comfortable to walk around an not have someone ‘steal’ it on them  (I have a buffet, so my choice has nothing to do with food issues!).  Yes my guests might think this a little strange, but so what! At a wedding I was at did something similar, but had a chicken or cow on the card to let the servers know which plate to give each guest.  I am not worried that my guests will not take their cards (It helps that the cards are supper cute!).  

I would discuss other options with your caterer though.  As someone who was a resturant server I could see how I would be annoyed by this!

As a former banquet server, my thoughts are… please don’t try to do this.  It takes a lot of work to get that many meals out correctly and efficiently.  Having a list of “5 chicken, 3 beef at table 12” ahead of time is so incredibly helpful.  It really would be extra work to get names, compare to the master list, and then make a list of meals at each table.
