My older brother is giving me away. Our dad died over 5 years ago. what should my brother say when he is asked ” who gives the woman away”, i want it to include him, my mom, and my dad in it. i also need a song for me and him to dance to. i really like my wish by rascal flatts.

my brother gave me away too and it was completely 100% normal – dont worry about it at all.
when asked, what if your brother said “her parents and i do” or “i do, on behalf of our mother and father” or something like that?
come to think of it, i dont think the priest at our church even asked that! it never even ocurred to me!

what if your brother said, “our family??” I also like the suggestion of I do, on behalf of her mother and father.

Are you 100% set on that question being asked? Until my officiant asked me about if I wanted to use it or not – it hadn’t even dawned on me that not using it was an option.

We didn’t have “who gives this woman away”. Instead we had a part in the wedding where my parents and Mother-In-Law stood up and were asked something like “will you support their marriage” and they said “yes” – something like that. I liked the idea of including the family somehow without making it just about my father giving me to Darling Husband (which isn’t what happened, my mum walked down the aisle with us). You can do whatever you like here, ditto with the song I think 🙂
