@Molly2014:

please take what I am about to say as uninformed because I am not your brother’s doctor. The EEG is a measure of the type of brain activity- as a really basic explanation it can tell you whether someone has normal brainwaves, absent brainwaves or whether this is evidence of seizures that might be keeping him asleep.

@Molly2014:  I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My brother is stationed in Japan too and I can’t imagine how scary this is for you. My thoughts are with you.

I don’t have an experience with this kind of situation but I just wanted to say how sorry I am. What a terrible situation, I can’t imagine. Prayers for you, your brother, and your family!

@Molly2014:  yes, the base of your brain does control these things. The very difficult part is that these are most basic functions of the brain And just because he is breathing with a ventilator and a trache  – doesn’t mean that he can breathe without the tracheostOmy once  the swelling in his neck go down.

if someone is ‘brain dead’ they may still be able breathe and regulate their temp and Bridal Party.

in other words- you need to wait for the EEG tomorrow.

@Molly2014:  some types of seizure medicine used in the ICU keeps people asleep for a really really long time. Some seizure medicine also affects pupils. Did the doctors say why they ordered the EEG?

Sweetheart- miracles do happen in ICU everyday. Keep your chin up. Make sure you try and get some sleep and regular meals. i am sure everyone here is praying for him and you x x x
