So, I get a call today from my close friend, who also happens to be my DOC (she’s in college for event planning and is doing it for free- it pays to have awesome friends!)
While she was in her food sanitation class, they were discussing a local restaurant that got shut down this week due to several health violations, one of which being cockroaches…..
It’s my caterer.
She was kind enough to call me and let me know, since she knew my caterer probably wouldn’t offer the same courtesy.
Now, don’t get me wrong- I’m a rational person, so I realize that in 3 months they will probably have their pest problem under control, and I understand that it could happen to any restaurant, no matter how clean.
More than anything, I am afraid to use them now because of what my guests would think if they knew. Can you imagine how awful it would be to have guests talking at your wedding about roaches?
Add to that the fact that we only picked them b/c they were inexpensive, so we aren’t 100% in love with the food (it’s a good, but not great, place), and their catering lady is REALLY hard to contact… we just decided it was best to cut ties with them.
So, with 3 months left before the wedding, I have to track down a new caterer that will be within our budget. This is made more difficult by the fact that our venues make us pick from a list of “approved” caterers.
If we can’t find one on the list that is within our budget, I think I’m going to complain and try to convince them to let us pick our own, seeing as THEIR approved list included a caterer that got shut down.
Has anybody else had to deal with a HUGE wedding curve ball? If you were in my position, would you switch caterers?
