My Fiance and I have been together for 7 years and 4 months, so it was no surprise to any of our friends and family that he proposed this Christmas 🙂 In all fairness, I can’t say I was surprised either, but that doesn’t take one ounce of excitement away. Sure, I knew it was coming, but I didn’t know when, or how, or the diamond cut.
Anyways, here’s the story:
Christmas morning, around 5:30am I woke up with a pounding headache. I knew staying up until after 2 watching The Vow was a bad idea. Fiance got out of bed and headed downstairs. I wasn’t sure what he was up to, maybe grabbing our stockings, as it isn’t that unusual for us to open them in bed. All I knew was I was still pretty tired and had to pee.
A few minutes later he comes back upstairs and crawls into bed, wrapping around my legs. I suppose it’s time to get up, so I tell him that I have to pee and then I’ll head down. “No, you have to come right now”, he says. “But what if I get so excited by all my awesome presents I pee my pants?” So off to the bathroom I go. But as I walk to the bathroom I feel a piece of yarn wrap around my leg. “What’s that?” I ask. “Part of your present”, he says.
When I get back, bedroom still dark, I feel him wrap a piece of yarn around my finger. “It’s not a diamond”, he says. I can already feel my heart racing. I open the bedroom door and follow the red piece of yarn down the hallway and the stairs. The yarn has old photos, cards, and concert tickets attached to it. I try really hard not to trip down the stairs as I already know what’s coming. When I get to the tree there are two small tea lights burning, with a box in the center. I look up at him and blurt out “I’m scared to open it!”. He seems confused, but I stumble to grab it anyways.
When I open it and stare up at him he asks me, “Will you marry me?” And of course I say yes, smooch him, and dance around the living room like an idiot. 🙂
