You can cross #66 off the list, so get ready to move up notch ladies!
My proposal story isn’t the most fairytale, but it was perfect for us 🙂
After resounding myself to the fact that this will be another Christmas without any sign of a proposal, my SO (no wait? FI!) asked me to marry him on Christmas morning, and I was completely surprised!
Looking back – Fiance was extremely happy all day Christmas Eve, but I just figured it was the excitement of Christmas. I started to think maybe something was up when he asked me to wait up with him until Midnight, in which we could open one present early before going to sleep.
He led me downstairs, but after a bit of talking, I didn’t open a present as he planned, as I wanted him to open a present for him too at the same time, but he didn’t want to play ball.
We headed back upstairs and he followed me into our bedroom, and I saw there was a little red gift, in the shape of a small box on my pillow. My heart stopped as I could tell by the grin and excitement on his face that this was it.
We got into bed and I opened it slowly next to him, and it was my box with the ring in it! And I was awestruck of how sparkly it was, just how I remembered when he put a deposit on it almost 6 months ago at the jewellers! Fiance then asked me to marry him, no one knee, no ceremonious speech – just a genuine ‘I love you so much’ but he was so happy, and I was ecstatic! I couldn’t help but say ‘YES!!’ many times over. After that lots of hugging and kissing followed, haha!
My Fiance then brought in a bottle of Champagne all gift wrapped that the jewellers had given him to celebrate, and whilst we haven’t drunk any yet I think I might save it for either or engagement celebrations or even our wedding to reminisce that night.
Apparently I was correct about the safe in the end, the ring was in there, and he had hidden it under our other bed behind the drawer compartment, so I never would have found it. He had also had it for 3 months, and was waiting for the right time to propose, which he figured would be at home, just us, and on Christmas to make things really special. He said he did plan on proposing on Christmas day itself, but just couldn’t wait any longer!
We told both sets of parents and siblings on Christmas Day, and will be informing close friends first before putting the obligatory status announcement on Facebook. Everyone has been really pleased and excited for us; I think it’s been expected for a while by others!
So without further ado, my engagement ring; I apologise for the photo quality.
A 0.17ct brilliant diamond in a platinum setting, my baby 🙂
While I remember, my Fiance also bought me a Wedding planner for Christmas (forward thinking eh?), I guess I best start planning in the New Year!
To all the waiting ladies, my thoughts will still be with you. I enjoyed reading your updates and I wish you speedy proposals. I can definitely say that all the rollercoaster of emotions we go through are totally worth the wait in the end, and the anxiety of waiting just disappears at the sight of that elusive engagement ring. But know this, your hunches, your feelings are usually not far off from the truth, and your partners are not as far away from proposing to you as you may think. In fact, even with all clues on the table, you will still be surprised and be the happiest you could ever imagine. And that was my Christmas wish for you all ladies, may you all get what you wish for in the near future.
It’s been fun bees, and I thank you for all the advice and patience you gave me during my wait and my posts. Who would have thought I would have started at #149, 7 months ago, and be taken off the list right now. There is hope for us all yet – and I will still be around, don’t you worry.
Merry Christmas and New Year! 😀
