I have a co-worker who has a very annoying habit. My office is located en route to the coffee pot/candy dish/break area. Whenever this person needs a little break, they head towards this designated break area and ALWAYS stop at my desk and say something, like a conversation starter.
“this is an interesting song” – referring to whatever my Pandora is playing.
“did you like that video by Katy Perry…Oh, you didn’t see it, let me tell you…”
“cooked anything good for dinner lately? I made the best _________”
“have you ever been on this specific website? well just pull it up on your screen, it’s great” (then they sit and stare at my screen waiting for me to pull it up!)
Once they walked by while I was sending a text and started chuckling (picture fake laughing, hand over mouth…) and when I said “what?’ they said “I’m sorry, it just amazes me how fast you type on that thing”….
ANYTHING new in my office, they will comment on it. Even a new smell, like if I use a different hand lotion/sanitizer, or bring in a different lunch.
I’ve tried keeping my answers short while staring forward at my computer. I’ve tried not responding more than “no/yes”. I’ve said “I’ve got a lot of work to do today”. The thing that really gets to me, is they lean over my desk and look at my screen while they’re talking – being extra nosey. Sometimes they even touch my screen. I’m so fed up!
Have any of you bees ever dealth with this? How did you deal? Did you just learn to live with it/ignore it or did you say something? What would you do if you were me?!
