Are you using a deep purple like aubergine?  Or more like the purple used by a royal house? If the latter, I think it’s super classy and not too dark.  We’re doing black tux, black bow-tie, black waistcoat, and white shirt for the men.  The bridesmaids will either be in black or grey floor-length gowns, so I say do what you want! Is your wedding a formal evening affair?

Black and Purple don’t convey funeral AT ALL to me.  I think they are very elegent, romantic, etc. – stick with it.  It will be beautiful!

Ours is a bruise, Black/Purple/and blue 😉

Your fine! The only thing I would be careful of, is that to me it seems more of a cooler time of year scheme… It’s not that’s it’s funeral like, but black suits, black shirts, and purple doesnt say “august” to me… what about a white shirt with black vests/ties and the girls in purple?

Those were going to be my colors, and I got a lot of odd looks as well. I told one florist I wanted black dahlias in my bouquet and she flat out told me that would be too dark and I should have an all white bouquet (needless to say I did not use her.).

I think it’s fine, just throw some touches of silver and white in there and it will all balance out!

I don’t think funeral at all. Our colors were black and ivory with royal purple/eggplant accents. I think it turned out elegant, not funerial.

I don’t think it’s funeral-like at all.  It sounds completely elegant to me!  What if you added a splash of another color in there, like gold, silver, or white?

Well regardless of the time of year, I still think you should do what you want 🙂  In my opinion, I don’t think funeral.  Black is very, well, black-tie and wedding-ish.  And purple is regal!  I think it’s a great combo.

Those ARE “mourning colors” but if you like them, who cares? And, here is the interesting note. My family is from Spain and there women were black to their weddings, it is symbolic of the fact that they are committed until death (do they part). So, if anybody tries to TELL YOU its too funeralish – tell them its symbolic and they’ll think its sooo deep and spiritual. lol. Innocent
