I am doing black purple and using highlights of silver and white to offset the dark tones and doing an old hollywood type theme. Im biased, but I think your colors will work just fine.

I’ve never been to a funeral with purple in it. 😛

I think your colors sound awesome. Black goes with everything!

Those were my colors and I loved it :). I also had accents of white and silver to soften it up a bit, but i loved it. My wedding was also in May, so it really wasn’t a normal color theme for the month, but I did what I wanted! Go for it, google black and purple wedding there are tons of ideas there.

My brother’s wedding was black and purple and looked really smart.  The men had light grey vests and ties though, to lighten things up.  The purple mostly figured in the flowers.  Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were black.  It was the hottest day of the year here , 17 june 2006, and it actually didn’t look dark or morbid or heavy or anything.  I think if you’re just careful with the colours it’ll be lovely.

It’s not “funeral” like.  I got told by my Future Mother-In-Law, that my groom would like “funeralish” in his black suit, white dress shirt, and black tie.  We are keeping his attire and so, I say, do what you want too! 😉

I personally think purple is a beautiful color for a wedding and so is black.  It just depends on how the colors are used.  I’ve seen other colors used, though not funeral like, but not a nice combo in my opinion.  So, it’s all in moderation!

Charlotte’s wedding (the wedding I’m doing at the moment) is also Purple and Black. I will post pictures and you tell me if you think it looks like a funeral.

I don’t think so, I think it’ll be beautiful.

I love purple, my colors are purple & turquoise with black & silver accents.

People only wear black to funerals in the movies and on tv, not real life. Those colors are not associated at all with funerals and no one should be telling you they are nor judging your choices. If someone does not like what you have picked, they don’t have to attend and they can choose whatever they want when it is their turn. Unfortunately when it comes to weddings, people will always have an opinion and they don’t realize or care that it isn’t their place to say anything.

Your colors are beautiful.  Do not change what you picked to suit other people, many of whom may or may not even be attending.

these are my colors too, so i hope it’s not like a funeral! haha. i agree with the other posters too that if you add a few accent colors like silvers or whites, it will help to lighten things. also – DO WHAT YOU WANT. if these are the colors you like, then who cares? 10 years from now, no one will remember what your colors were, but YOU will remember how much the event was what you wanted and how happy you felt.

I know a TON of brides who have done/are using the purple/black/white scheme and it always turns out LOVELY.
