@TwoStatesBride: please, you are girl-fighting about a fantasy baby and names for it?
Sometimes I shake my head for my gender.
If you must, you both can use the name. Neither of you hold the copyright on it. And is she thought of it independantly from you there’s a good chance it’s one of those trendy names that everyone will have.

I wouldn’t worry about it until one of you is pregnant with a girl lol. One or both of you might change your mind. Even if you don’t, I don’t think it’s the end of the world if both had the same name if you are both dead set on it.

@TwoStatesBride: Great attitude! But any name can be turned into a nick names? Even if it’s just the first letter. Or adding “y” to the end. And some people have nick names that have nothing to do with their actual name. Or their nick name is their last name.

@FauxPas2012: it’s not trendy at all, it’s old fashioned. Doesn’t even rank in the top 100.
you misread my post, I think. We agreed we could both use the name, and we aren’t fighting at all. This is more about my own neurosis regarding having matching names, I realize no one “owns” a name.

@JenGirl: hmmmm I guess that’s true, I guess I meant it can’t be shortened. If we have family events together we could come up with something I’m sure!

@TwoStatesBride: since it’s a family name I wouldn’t worry about it. we have many same names in our family. My son has the same name as his cousin. There is a few johns. there are two margarets in my family. I don’t think this is a big deal. I would think it would be a bit more strange if you two were sisters. But even then I don’t get what the big deal is. especially since they will have different last names and different middle names.

@TwoStatesBride: I think it’s fine… in fact my uncle and his cousin both have sons with the same name. The boys are I think 3-5 years apart, and it’s a non-issue. There are a couple cases in my family of double names between my first cousins and cousin-in-laws, and we always find ways to differentiate between them, even where the name isn’t able to be shortened.

Eh, you’ll just have to wait and see who has a girl first. If she does, you’ll have to et over it and either name your (possible) daughter the same name or choose another one.

@TwoStatesBride: if it makes you feel any better, my FI’s younger brother has the same name as their cousin. Both his dad and his aunt liked the same name. His brother was born first, and then their cousin, and his aunt went with the name anyway.
No one seems to have an issue with it!
Cousins having kids with the same name is no big deal 🙂

My cousin and I have the same first AND middle names! My dad and his sister’s husband both had the same first name so that’s our middle name. We’re four years apart and our parents both liked the same first name. It was fun growing up. We were Little and Big.

@TwoStatesBride: My sister is N
, my cousin is H
, and another cousin is J
. They LOVE that they have names in common! (The E names and the N names are the same!)

I wouldn’t worry about it at all. I have the same name as my aunt (who is much closer to my age than to her sister’s/my mom’s). It’s really not a big deal.

My brother, father, grandfather and uncle all of the same name and they all have some sort of nickname to set them a part from each other. I would not worry about it.

@Shelby81: little and big is a cute way to do it!
@BrandNewBride: thats what i was thinking, that if my cousin and i are still close in 10 years or whenever the kids will be old enough to recognize that they have the same name that maybe they’d like it 🙂

I have the same name as my cousin and I love it 🙂 I just go by FirstName MiddleName and she goes by FirstName (since she’s older)
I wouldn’t stress 🙂
ETA: I only go by FirstName MiddleName when we are at family events. But I always will respond to both and some of my best friends have started calling me that. I love it, I consider it a nickname that only my closest friends and family call me!
