- Wedding: December 2015
I’m a Bee from before the change, who has only really started posting/replying again recently. I feel that many of the Bees that heard my story before have since gone, so here’s an update for any who care:
SO and I have been together almost 8 years, and have known that we would get married since year 3. In September of 2012, SO was given 2 beautiful family diamonds to be mad into an engagement ring. I spent weeks looking at 2 stone settings, and then we discussed purchasing a thrid stone on our own, which would take awhile (we are both special needs teachers at a part-time school, and we have a mortgage together). In May of 2013, while I was still trying to figure out how to get a 2 stone ring to look balanced in my mind, my mother gave me the diamond my father gave her when I was born (it was a pendant). So we had 3 stones, to make a 3 stone ring. Except….
All three stones were different sizes…the two from his family were about 1 carat each (at 6 mm and 6.6 mm), while the one from my family was only a 1/2 carat. This made it pretty much impossible to find a pre-made setting that would work, and I had several companies tell me that the ring would not turn out well.
So, in June of 2013, I went to Custom Made.com and posted my project. By July, I had a designer/jeweler with great ideas and a fabulous budget. I sent off my stones and we stayed in contact. Well, due to family emergencies with both my and my designer’s families, added to terrible fall/winter storms, my rign got terribly delayed.
In the midst of that, we have had to move the wedding date from December 2014 to December 2015, for money and family reasons, which saddened me greatly, but I think we have already found a venue, and are finalizing what we would like to budget to fully be.
And then last week, it was done! I am attaching the rendering, so that my unusual design can illustrate my tale, and hopefully help out other bees with unusual stone sizes/shapes/or number. I have seen it in person, and even tried it on, but SO wants to do a “formal” proposal, complete with talking to my dad before hand, so it will be a hot minute until I can wear it on the daily. BUT, it is everything I wanted and more.
First Pic: the WIndows Paint-designed sample I sent my designer ( i faux-photoshopped an antique bezel three stone with a different antique halo ring with four prongs)
And here is my rendering! The finished ring looks EXACTLY like it, which is amazing.
As you can see, in order to make the center .5 carat stone blend well with the 1 carat sides, there is a 12 stone halo. The center stone is also prong set, while the sides are bezel. I know that many people will not like the blend of bezel, halo, and prong, but it suits me perfectly. Just retro/antique enough, while still completely unique. And, we have held the idea the entire time that this will be an heirloom ring for our child(ren), as it combines both of our families into one piece of jewelry.
I will post true hand photos as soon as I have it officially on my finger!
