@FutureMrsNRoss:  I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. It’s a powerless feeling for family when there is nothing they can do other than being there.

He sounds like a very strong man if he battled back before.

My Mom and my Dad have both passed away.

Don’t get down on your  SO. Many men are just uncomfortable in such times. Even though he may not say much, I am sure he is there for you.

Your SO might be overwhelmed trying to figure out what, exactly, he can do or say to help — which is not probably the thing you want to hear, but I know Mr. D has totally dropped the ball on me before when I was dealing with rough family health stuff. He was so afraid to say the wrong thing that he just didn’t say ANYTHING which to me seemed way worse.

I hope everything turns around for you soon!

*Hugs* Having a sick loved one is always hard.  My Dad was hospitalized last year right before we got engaged and Fiance really did not know how to handle it.  His Dad had passed away so he (understandably) did not want to go to the hospital to see my father, but also deals with things so differently than me.  I found telling him I what I needed or didn’t need was helpful for us both.  I wouldn’t take his MIA-ness to mean he doesn’t care quite yet.
