My husband(I love being able to say that) and I were at my dads house and I told him that I went to the bank to deposit our gifts.
My dads partner just turned to me and said ,” oh, how much did you rake in?”
I just looked sat her and didn’t say anything. It was awkward and hilarious.

I know I’ll be asked that too. Some people just don’t have a problem talking about money like that.

Ugh. Awkward! I wouldn’t be surprised if FI’s family asked us something like that…if he didn’t go ahead and tell them first…he just loves to tell people how much money we have! So bizarre…

That sounds like my grandma! She always wants to know how much everything cost. My younger brother just graduated high school and had his open house the other day, the first thing she asked him was how much money did you get!

I hate discussing money with people. I think if anyone asks, I’ll just say something vague about all the beautiful cards and how lucky we are to have so many amazing people in our lives to dodge the question.

just say” enough to get all the beautiful things we wanted” end of discussion- no one’s business

I know someone is going to ask me this question.
So rude! I’ll just probably say something like “More than we expected – we have such generous friends/family”

My mom asked the question – and, in a fluster, I answered. She’s always had problems with boundaries, and as an adult I’m still learning to enforce them. Sometimes I’ll give away tidbits of personal information lest I awaken a demon.
